Can an Independent Scotland stand on its own two feet?.

An excellent piece by John Jappy, who confirms that contrary to popular misconception and media distortion, Scotland is more than capable of standing alone after independence.

I’ll let the article speak for itself.

Ruth Davidson backs currency union | Scottish National Party.

So Ruth Davidson, leader of the Scottish Conservative and Union Party says she would back a currency union if Scotland votes for Independence. Granted, she says she would support it AFTER a yes vote, but that still goes against her Westminster bosses and directly opposes what George Osborne has said. Do we take this as unofficial confirmation that Westminster would capitulate to the currency union and if so, has Ruth just undermined everything Cameron and co have been saying? Has she in effect, called her party’s own bluff?

It would certainly confirm YES supporters’ suspicions all along, that the question of sharing a currency has merely been an attempt to kill the independence argument. It is still one of the biggest topics of debate between both sides of the support, with the NO supporters wringing their hands in desperation as they ponder how we’ll get along without the pound. I and many others simply don’t believe the threat was in any way credible, as not sharing the currency would do massive damage to trade between Scotland and the UK. Business leaders would simply not stand for a government who threatened their survival, just as we’re trying to claw our way out of recession. And of course there’s the question of exactly how Westminster would deny us the pound. Are they planning to send the troops in to confiscate our wallets and purses?

I am concerned however, that the realisation of threats from Westminster being only bluff and bluster will come too late and that fear will lead us to vote NO. Bravery, and the willingness to make a leap of faith have long since deserted many Scots.

Open Letter to the so-called Cybernats | 10.01 Campaign10.01 Campaign.

I wanted to share this letter from Jim Sillars on the subject of cyber abuse, specifically in relation to the Campbell Gunn events I posted about earlier. It’s an intelligently written piece, and speaks of  the depths to which the UK will go to in making sure that independence support dies – not necessarily of natural causes either.

What this letter also underlines is that the Better Together supporters get away with murder on a daily basis, because the mainstream media will not cover threats and abuse targeted at First Minister Salmond, or Deputy First Minister Sturgeon. They do not cover the kind of bile doled out to the Weirs from Ayrshire, who have donated some of their lottery winnings to the independence campaign.

With only 6 points between YES and NO in the most recent polls, I can only imagine how better we would be doing if the way in which #indyref news was covered was not biased in favour of Westminster.

A post I made on Facebook yesterday (WARNING – it’s a little sweary):

Sick of all the shit being thrown around in this damn #indyref debate! Truly makes we want to shut down my social media until 2015! The worst thing about it all, without shadow of a doubt, is how bigotry seems to drive a lot of what I’m seeing. Sadly, the worst I have seen has come from Rangers fans, or rather, Orangemen who happen to support Rangers. I keep hearing about Cybernats and how nasty they are, and although I’ve seen some stupid comments, they have nothing on the kind of vitriol spouted by people with NO SURRENDER and the red hand of Ulster plastered all over their Twitter/Facebook accounts.

Jesus Christ people, when the hell are we going to grow out of this shite? Football teams and religion are just a poor excuse for both sides to be shitty to each other, pure and simple. Id this what we are going to leave for the next generation and the one after that? Are we still going to define ourselves by things that happened in centuries past, or by the slightly different way in which we worship a deity who might not even exist? After reading all the spiteful rubbish I’ve seen tonight, I am not proud in any way, shape or form to be Scottish. We’re a national and international embarrassment thanks to people who hate for no reason other than their daddy did before them.

And before anyone questions MY religion or motives, don’t let my surname fool you – I don’t believe in anything. There’s no Heaven, no Hell, no God, no Devil, no nothing except the big black and slowly becoming food for the worms. Any affiliation, club, cult or religion that causes a human being to hate another can’t possibly have a God at its helm.

So, who wants to be the one to point out their little error then? Really lads, was this banner comprising only four words too difficult to get right?

I know that laughing at something like this can appear petty, but it really does sum up the NO campaign for me. People milling around without much purpose, a misleading headline and the inability to get even the simplest thing correct

The street sign just adds the perfect finishing touch – One Way – Yes indeed, backwards!
